The Sun Java System Web Server (Sun Web Server) is a freely-available, high-performance, feature-rich HTTP server that provides a simple, user-friendly administration interface. In addition to being a high-performance static-content delivery engine for items such as images and HTML documents, the Sun Web Server also supports various server-side languages and technologies such as JavaServer Pages(TM), Java(TM) Servlets, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails, Active Server Pages (ASP) and Coldfusion.

Importance

This site and the associated book has become increasingly important given Sun's recent announcement that it would be open sourcing the core components of the Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 and Sun Java System Web Proxy technologies. On July 23rd, 2008 Sun announced that it would open source these products under a BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) license in the Web Stack sub-project of the OpenSolaris community.
